MINUTES
RECREATION AND PARKS BOARD: LOWER ALLEN TOWNSHIP
REGULAR MEETING FEBRUARY 28, 2018
The following were in ATTENDANCE:

Mr. Mahon called the February 28, 2018 Regular Meeting of the Recreation and Parks Board to order at 7:03 pm.
APPROVAL OF MEETING MINUTES
Mr. GROVE made a motion to approve the minutes from the January 24, 2018 meeting. Mr. PELLES seconded the motion. Motion carried 6-0.
PUBLIC COMMENT:
Highland Park
There were no public comments. Mrs. Hayden stated general park maintenance, as weather allows, is being performed. The recommended signage, pertaining to loud music and profanity, will be installed in the next week or so.
LIAISON REPORT – COMMISSIONER YOUNG
Commissioner Holtzman stated she has a volunteer to help with the Easter Egg Hunt.
RECREATION AND PARKS STAFF REPORT/ACTIVITIES REPORT
Mrs. Hayden discussed the following Park Operational Staff Report:
- The dog park has been closed for a month. Plans to spread wood chips, in the muddy areas, will take place when weather allows.
- Bids are currently being taken for the repaving of some roadways at LACP. Originally, we were hoping to include the stone parking lots in this round of paving, but with the rising costs of black top, the job was scaled back. The parking lot adjacent to softball field #2 will be done, as it is in very poor condition.
- Underbrush and dead trees were cut back at the Beacon Hill radar site.
- Bleacher repairs are ongoing at Pete’s and Wass Park. The broken parking blocks, were replaced, at Pete’s park.
OLD BUSINESS
Easter Egg Hunt-March 24th
Mr. Angelo will act as the Easter Bunny. Ms. Parry can attend and will bring two volunteers to help. The stuffing of the eggs will be done by the Woods residents. Flyers have been posted on the website and kiosks in the parks. Mr. Grove, Duncanson, Pelles, and Mahon stated they would be attend. Everyone agreed to meet at the barn at 8:30am.
Gardeners Gathering-April 28th
Ms. Parry hasn’t worked on the Gardeners Gathering yet. She will start to reach out this week. Mrs. Hayden provided a list of ideas for workshops from last year’s survey. Ms. Parry will prepare the flyer and send it to Wendy as the newsletter deadline is March 21st. There will be a meeting before the Gathering to ensure everything is ready. The plant swap will be included again this year. The donation letters for plants should be ready for the next meeting. Mrs. Hayden will reach out to Black’s landscaping about ponds/fountains. Discussion ensued.
Recognition of Jim Chianos
Mr. Mahon spoke about the desire to honor Jim through dedicating the softball field at a Wass park. He stated the Township reached out to the family and they agreed. He asked the Board if they would agree to write a recommendation for this dedication. Mr. Grove stated about $2,200 was received in donations for Jim. Discussion ensued.
Mr. PELLES made a motion to dedicate and name Field 2 at Wass Park after Jim Chianos. Ms. PARRY seconded the motion. Motion carried 6-0.
NEW BUSINESS
No new business was discussed.
