PUBLIC COMMENT:

Ms. Parry noted that Sheepford Crossing is Park of the Month for July.  Mrs. Hayden spoke about a new park sign that was installed.  She said that the Adopt A Park Participant is still Denise Watts who is continuing in this position from last year.  Mr. Duncanson mentioned water pooling on the basketball court.  This will be discussed further in the Park Tours section.

LIASON REPORT – COMMISSIONER HOLTZMAN

Commissioner Holtzman is out of town so there is no liaison report.

RECREATION AND PARKS STAFF REPORT

Mrs. Hayden provided the following Parks Operation Staff update:

  • In May, regular park maintenance was performed with vegetation control and wood chipping
  • In June, the same activities continued along with damage to a slide at WASS Park near the end of the month. The Township has received insurance money to replace the slide and will be doing this soon.  Park signs were replaced at Beacon Hill Park, Pete’s Park, and Highland Estates in June.
  • In July regular park maintenance continued with a lot of weeding needed due to excessive rain. Vandals fired a Beebe gun in Cedar Spring Run Park, shooting the solar lights and the little library. These repairs will also be covered by insurance money.
  • A Scout project at Lower Allen Community Park provided benches for the horseshoe pit by the barn and the pits themselves were rebuilt.

ACTIVITIES REPORT

  • Follow up for the Gardeners Gathering, there were about a dozen people in attendance. Thank you letters were sent to the sponsors.
  • The next event to take place will be the Yappy Hour which is scheduled for August 2, 5:30 – 7:00pm at LACP Dog Park. A flyer advertising this was provided.  Billy Wray Music will be there as well as 10 vendors selling pet related items and a food truck. This event is not widely advertised due to wanting to keep it low-key. It is on Facebook and the Township website.
  • There will be a dedication of the James W. Chianos Memorial Field held on August 5th at 3:00pm at the Lower Allen Community Park. There will be refreshments available at the concession stand.  Coaches and umpires and ball players, that knew Mr. Chianos, have been invited.
  • Lower Allen Township National Night Out is scheduled for Tuesday August 7th from 5:30 to 8:30pm at Christian Life Assembly. There was a flyer provided for this event as well.

OLD BUSINESS

Ms. Parry thanked Mrs. Hayden for the way she organized the Park Tour Recap which made it very easy to go through.  A letter will be presented to the Board which highlights capital items, or those things in the $5,000.00 price range.  It would be best to present the finalized letter in one of the August meetings.
