Water Conservation Order Lifted

MECHANICSBURG, Pa. (Feb. 22, 2026) - Pennsylvania American Water has lifted the mandatory water conservation order for its Mechanicsburg water system, including parts of Silver Spring Township, Hampden Township, Lower Allen Township, Lemoyne Borough, Wormleysburg Borough, East Pennsboro Township, New Cumberland Borough, Fairview Township, Shiremanstown Borough, Camp Hill Borough, and Newberry Township, as of 10:30 a.m. today.

The water conservation order was initially issued on Feb. 21 when the company’s West Shore Water Treatment Plant, one of the system’s two water treatment plants, was taken offline due to upstream contamination on the Yellow Breeches Creek. Production has now been restored at the treatment plant following acceptable test results and approval from the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection.

Drinking water remains safe, and normal water use may now be resumed, though customers are encouraged to use water wisely. The company thanks customers for their patience, cooperation, and water conservation throughout the duration of the order.

Pennsylvania American Water is notifying affected customers that the conservation order has been lifted through its automated emergency notification system.

(Feb. 21, 2026) - Pennsylvania American Water issued a mandatory water conservation order for approximately 42,000 customer connections in its Mechanicsburg water system this evening, including parts of Silver Spring Township, Hampden Township, Lower Allen Township, Lemoyne Borough, Wormleysburg Borough, East Pennsboro Township, New Cumberland Borough, Fairview Township, Shiremanstown Borough, Camp Hill Borough, and Newberry Township. Customers are asked to temporarily limit their water use to essential purposes only, with a targeted use reduction between 10-15%.

The mandatory conservation order follows an unexpected incident affecting the company’s West Shore Water Treatment Plant water source. The company has increased production at its Silver Spring Water Treatment Plant, which also serves the Mechanicsburg water system, and will be working to open emergency interconnections with neighboring water systems.
