Work that requires a permit
A Certificate of Use (Zoning permit) is required when the property use changes from one established use to a different established use (i.e. change of existing businesses).
If any alterations will be made to the interior or exterior of the building, then a Building and/or Zoning permit for the work is also required.

An Excavation & Fill permit is required for any grading changes or building improvements are made that require two cubic yards of earth or material to be moved.

A Zoning permit is required for the installation of fencing.
A Building permit is required for any fencing over 6 feet in height.
Fences may be constructed up to, but not on, any property line.
Fencing installed within a clear sight triangle of intersecting streets as well as within the front yard of the primary building cannot exceed 3.5 feet in height.
Fencing installed in the side or rear yards cannot exceed 6 feet in height (residential).

A Right-of-Way (ROW) permit is required for all openings within the Township owned ROW. This includes openings along the grass or shoulder area that are outside the paved roadway but are withing the Township owned ROW.
ROW permits obtained for asphalt cuts on streets paved within the last five years will have more stringent restoration requirements.

A Building permit is required for swimming pools capable of holding over 24 inches of water. All swimming pools with a water depth of greater than 24 inches must be completely surrounded by a fence or barrier that is a minimum height of four feet.
All gates shall have a self-closing locking device, and the gate must swing away from pool area. Any pool that has a self-contained fence/wall four feet high or greater with an accessible retractable ladder or steps is exempt from this gate requirement.

Work that does not require a permit
- Interior renovations that do not include any structural changes or new mechanical, electrical, or plumbing installations. If there is just some facelift painting, floor coverings, minor drywall repairs, etc., then no permit is required
- Minor plumbing fixtures and appliance repairs
- Door window replacement if changing to exact size and no structural changes

- Siding, gutters, fascia, exterior trim, or hardie board siding
- Fence replacements that are in the same location and same height as the existing fence (extensions to existing and change in height require a Zoning Permit)
- Landscaping, unless electrical and plumbing irrigation are included. Any hardscape patios and garden landscape walls over 4’ require at least a Zoning permit
