Pedestrian Improvement Projects:
18th & Hummel; and Wesley & Royal
Project Description:
In 2018, Lower Allen Township updated its Comprehensive Plan and developed four (4) priorities for the next ten (10) years. One of the priorities included: “expand pedestrian and bicycle connections”. An action item in the plan included convening a Ped/Bike Task Force and creating a plan for prioritizing ped/bike projects. The Lower Allen Ped/Bike Plan was completed and adopted by the Board of Commissioners in the fall of 2019.
Two projects identified in the study are being advanced by the Township:
- Pedestrian improvements at 18th Street and Hummel Avenue.
- Pedestrian improvements at Wesley Drive and Royal Drive.
The improvements at 18th Street and Hummel Avenue include the following:
- Construction of ADA ramps.
- Installation of a piano key pavement marking for improved visibility.
The improvements at Wesley Drive and Royal Drive include the following:
- Pedestals with pedestrian push buttons will be placed at both sides of the crosswalks crossing Wesley.
- Crosswalks will be painted with a piano key pavement marking for improved visibility.
- Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) along with pedestrian crossing signs will be placed on either side of Wesley Drive.
- An overhead flashing beacon mounted on a mast arm will also be constructed.
